Britney Spears got her fans amped up for her forthcoming album, Femme Fatale, when she released its second single, “Till the World Ends,” on Thursday. The chugging, Ke$ha-penned club banger is all about getting your dance on. And when Spears stopped by Ryan Seacrest’s radio show on Friday (March 4), she admitted that the song just felt right for her as soon as she heard it.

” ‘Till the World Ends’ is fun! It’s fun. I like it. It’s good energy,” she said of the track, which was produced by Dr. Luke, Max Martin and Billboard. “I’m a vibe person, and I think I love good-mood songs, and if it puts me in a good mood, it clicks for me.”

As for the album, which already spawned a chart-topping single, “Hold It Against Me,” she teased, “I think it’s my best work yet. I listened to it on the way over here. It’s definitely something you want to work out to. … And I’m a dancer, so it’s definitely something I can work with.”

“Oh my God! Will.i.am is amazing,” Spears said of the producer, who teased the track “The Big Fat Bass” recently. “He’s so much fun and he’s funny and he’s a charm. His music is so much fun. When they told me I was going to be working with him, I couldn’t wait. If it gets you going, you get excited, and he has that type of energy.”

In addition to talking about the album, Spears also shared plans for a summer tour. And she talked about how she’s keeping in shape these days as she amps up to promote the album, which drops March 29. “I have a trainer. [I go] on the treadmill for 30 minutes and we do a lot of cardio, running,” she explained. “He kicks my butt. You pay to hate your trainer!”

It seems that the workout regimen has also had an effect on her beau, talent agent Jason Trawick, who, according to Seacrest, was “pudgy” before he hooked up with the pop star. “He wasn’t pudgy,” she laughed. “He wasn’t pudgy. He is definitely ripped. He just got on this health kick. I guess he’s on a health kick. He eats what he wants.”

Usher Says New ‘Rev Pop’ Project Is A ‘Movement’

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

Singer teases his new project by pointing to past hits like ‘Yeah!’ and ‘OMG.’
By James Montgomery

With the success of songs like “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love,” “Hot Tottie” and “OMG,” Usher had himself a fairly massive 2010. But rather than rest on his laurels, he’s looking to build on his big year, not with an album, but with a “movement.”

It’s something he’s calling “Rev Pop” — or, simply, “Rev” — and though he’s already teased his idea in a video with David Guetta (Akon is also involved), he has yet to speak in full about it. So when MTV News caught up with Ush before the 53rd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles at the (Belvedere) RED launch party, we asked him about his next musical endeavor. And though he didn’t reveal much, he did let it be known that “Rev” isn’t exactly something new. In fact, he’s been doing it for a while now.

“I’ll give it to you this way: At a later date, I’ll tell you more about Rev Pop, but if I were to give you a flash: I’ve done it before, I did it with ‘Yeah!’ ” he said, “taking a cultural experience, and also worldwide recognition of a feeling, and putting the soul in the middle of it. Not allowing it to shift heavily to R&B genre, or pop. I did it again with ‘OMG,’ once again putting the soul in the middle of it, which was an electric-pop experience, with the soul.

“It’s bringing those elements together to tell a story, that was born here,” he said, gesturing toward his heart, “And that’s what Rev Pop is. There’s more, I mean, I could really elaborate, but that’s just what I’m going to tell you right now. ‘Rev’ is what it’s called … the movement is called Rev.”

Usher wouldn’t say just when his fans would be getting their first taste of Rev, but whenever they do, it sounds like they’re going to be impressed … if not a little shocked.

“Stay alive,” he smiled, “Because you’re definitely going to be in for a surprise.”

‘American Idol’ Elimination Episode Crushes TV Competition

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

‘Idol’ puts up biggest non-sports Thursday ratings numbers since 2007.
By Gil Kaufman

Simon who? Perhaps putting to rest any fears that “American Idol” would nosedive without iconic judge Simon Cowell, Thursday night’s first elimination episode of season 10 put up some stellar numbers for the singing competition.

On a night when most of the competition on rival networks consisted of reruns (including, count ‘em, six episodes in a row of “The Office” on NBC!) after the vaults were emptied last month during sweeps, “Idol” raked in 25 million viewers to win the ratings crown. In fact, the impressive numbers for “Idol” gave Fox the most-watched non-sports Thursday night number of any network over the past four years.

The two-hour extravaganza, which not only shaped the top 10, but also featured six performances by singers vying to score three wild card spots — not to mention the debut of judge Jennifer Lopez’s “On the Floor” music video — was a 29 percent increase from last season’s first elimination night, according to Billboard.

With an 8.1 rating in the 18 to 49 demo, numbers were also up 13 percent over last Thursday’s “AI” episode. As you might expect, ratings climbed during the pivotal final half-hour of the broadcast, going from 25.96 million between 9 and 9:30 p.m. to 26.66 million for the final half-hour.

The good ratings news bodes well for the start of live competition next week, when new judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will have to finally show their stuff during two real-time broadcasts a week after charming viewers during the season’s pre-taped episodes.

Don’t miss “Idol Party Live” every Thursday on MTV.com, following the “American Idol” results show, for analysis, celebrity guests and even some karaoke — get in the conversation by tweeting with the hashtag #idolparty! In the meantime, get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page, where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

Grammy 2011 Snubs Include Adam Lambert, Ke$ha, Big Boi, Rihanna

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

While Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber were both nominated, they didn’t get as much love as some expected.
By Gil Kaufman

You hear it all the time: “I’m just thankful to be nominated.” It’s the gracious and polite thing to say, and artists who lose out on major awards always feel compelled to offer it up.

But what if you never even get nominated?

Every year, there are head-slapping omissions from the roster of nominees at the big awards-fests (Christopher Nolan at the Oscars, anyone?), and this year’s 53rd annual Grammy Awards (which take place February 13) are no exception.

In the night’s biggest category, Album of the Year, there was plenty of griping from critics about the inclusion of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream, which many considered too lightweight for the night’s top prize. But there was also a bit of talk about Justin Bieber’s smash My World 2.0 not making it into the mix in the major categories, even if Bieber can lick his wounds with his Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album love.

Though the rules about the Best New Artist category have since been changed to avoid such a problem in the future, Lady Gaga has been the victim of Grammy snubs before. She earned six nominations this year, including coveted Album of the Year for The Fame Monster, but it was mystifying that her huge hit, “Bad Romance,” didn’t get any Record or Song of the Year nominations.

What gives?

“They want her for ratings, but I think the Grammys are still a bit freaked out by Gaga,” said Entertainment Weekly music writer Leah Greenblatt. “There were so many shenanigans about her not being nominated for Best New Artist that I think the Grammys got shamed over that. It’s possible they would try to make it up to her by showering her with nominations and I could see her win in major categories [in the future], but I think they’re not quite ready for her.” That could, of course, change next year when Gaga’s Born This Way is in the running.

Another diva used to serious Grammy love, Alicia Keys, was totally shut out for her The Element of Freedom album. “It’s interesting that Alicia Keys got nothing,” she said. “Her and John Mayer are practically on the ballots every year whether they qualify for eligibility or not. And I think ‘Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart’ was one of the year’s best singles.” And reclusive Grammy bait Sade got a pair of notices for her singles “Soldier of Love” and “Babyfather” in the R&B categories but no chance at any of the big prizes. Greenblatt said she was surprised by both snubs, especially since Sade’s Soldier of Love album was one of the top sellers of 2010 and because the enigmatic singer had been away for nearly a decade and came back in fine, mature form, the kind of story the Grammys love to honor.

There were some eyebrows raised over the single nomination for “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert, who had a solid and creatively rich hit album with his debut, For Your Entertainment, but just a single nod for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Whataya Want From Me.”

With Perry strutting into a number of top categories thanks to her light-as-air pop confections, it was a wonder that another pop tart with huge digital sales and big chart hits (things the Recording Academy likes to see), Ke$ha, was completely shut out of the game. Greenblatt thought the Lambert dis might fall into the same Gaga territory, with the Academy being a bit freaked out by the singer’s out-and-proud persona and over-the-top antics, but when it comes to Ke$ha, she said it’s probably a different story. “She had a huge impact, but I think the Grammys think she might go away, and they’ve chosen not to legitimize her,” she speculated.

Speaking of big sales, quite a few people commented on the fact that Train’s smash “Hey, Soul Sister,” the best-selling single of 2010, got just one notice for a little-heard live version in the Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group category.

A couple of well-respected hip-hop acts were also conspicuously absent from the nominations list, including Outkast’s Big Boi, whose acclaimed Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty was left out of the Best Rap Album category, along with Rick Ross, whose Teflon Don got no love. “Rick Ross is the kind of artist made to be ignored by the Grammys,” Greenblatt said. “He has a sensibility the Grammys will almost never come around to, no matter how beloved he is by rap fans.”

But given that she thought Chico Dusty was one of the best albums of 2010, Greenblatt was stunned by the freeze-out of Big Boi, who has been showered with Grammy love in the past. “It’s such an achievement, a fully realized album that feels like a real tapestry, a headphones album from someone whose skills are so singular … [from] one of the most iconic and Grammy-approved hip-hop acts of all time.”

Rihanna’s Rated R was also eligible but got stiffed in the major categories, landing just a Best Dance Recording nod for “Only Girl (In the World)” for her single from last year’s Loud and a number of notices for her work on Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie.” And if you thought Kanye West got ripped off when My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy got blanked, don’t worry: It wasn’t eligible this year but is in the hunt for next year.

The one omission that seemed to make sense was the two small nominations for the kids from “Glee,” who are up for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for their cover of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” and for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Glee: Vol. 1. Though they set cash registers ringing like crazy, it’s no wonder that actors singing covers didn’t garner attention at a show that ostensibly awards creativity. And no one seemed too shocked that Christina Aguilera’s poorly received Bionic was ignored.

Who do you think got stiffed by the Grammys? Share your top snubs in the comments.

Lady Gaga Makes Runway Debut At Mugler Fashion Show

Singer tries her hand at modeling in Paris, also previewing the song ‘Government Hooker.’

Before Wednesday’s (March 2) Mugler fashion show in Paris even kicked off, fans were treated to some behind-the-scenes action as models and stylists scrambled to finalize the looks for Nicola Formichetti’s debut women’s-wear collection for the line. Perhaps the most famous model backstage? That would be Lady Gaga.

Mugler was the perfect line for Gaga’s catwalk debut — not just because creative director Formichetti is her stylist, but also because its gothy, latexy and glamorous aesthetic perfectly fits Gaga’s over-the-top style.

When the show did eventually kick off, Paris’ most fashionable, including Vogue editor Anna Wintour, filled the seats to see what Formichetti had up his sleeve. This season, the brand showed models styled with sleek ponytails and variations on the cat eye. The clothes had lots of leather, sheer fabrics and plastic-like garments that were equally futuristic and sophisticated, fitting perfectly to the model’s bodies. Shoulders were an emphasis of the ensembles, while pencil skirts and wide-legged pants also ruled. Blacks, Army greens and dark neutrals flooded the line, which also included wintery whites, leopard prints and cobalt blues.

Photos: Lady Gaga’s walk down the Paris runway.

Gaga hit the stage early in the show in her Mugler finest. For her initial appearance, she wore a version of a beret, two flowing pigtails, a dazzling diamond necklace, a sheer black top with a bra, a leather skirt and towering boots. Gaga posed and smoked a cigarette onstage as models, including Zombie Boy, tried to act like the superstar wasn’t onstage with them. As she walked off, cheers could be heard from the audience.

Gaga re-emerged for the close of the show in a flowing, white skirt with white bustier and super-high platforms. She completed the look with a white hat and sheer scarf. (Always self-aware, Gaga was heard telling handlers backstage before she hit the runway, “If I vomit on the stage, it would be good press.” She also was spotted practicing her fiercest strut.)

As “Born This Way” played out, the models took their final walks. Gaga hugged Formichetti as the designer came out for his bow. Backstage, as the live-stream cameras still rolled, Gaga took photos and got flowers.

In addition to playing “BTW” and “Scheiße,” Gaga debuted “Government Hooker,” a trance-y dance track about all things sexy in which she recites lines like “Put your hands on me.”

‘She’s very proud of it,’ Gaga’s creative director reveals to MTV News.

Fans have weighed in on Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” video, but how does Mother Monster herself feel about her latest entry into the world of music videos?

The video’s creative director and Gaga’s choreographer, Laurieann Gibson, stopped by MTV News on Monday, the same day the Nick Knight-directed clip dropped, and she opened up about Gaga’s reaction to seeing the trippy “Born This Way”.

“She loves it! She loves it so much and she’s so happy,” Gibson told us. “She loves it. She watches it all the time. Every time I walk in the dressing room [she says], ‘Ah! Look!’ She’s very proud of it.”

Gibson shares that excitement and she said she’s pleased that Gaga and her team are spreading their message of love and acceptance.

“I’m happy for her because she’s so fearless,” Gibson explained. “And she works so hard and, for me, those types of artists don’t come around that often.”

Those sentiments were mirrored by one of Gaga’s producers, Fernando Garibay, who worked on many of the songs on the upcoming Born This Way. Garibay told us he thinks the video reflects the song’s feel-good message.

“Well, I’ve seen pieces. We were privy to watching her make the video and stuff, and as we were watching her do the choreography and everything, we were just blown away, of course,” he said. “It’s amazing. Her talent, I mean, she’s so talented, but in combining the imagery, the dance and how it’s expressed with the song is truly amazing. … I’m still blown away by it. I saw it this morning and I was like, ‘Wow.’ ”

Justin Bieber’s ‘Never Say Never’ Is Third-Highest-Grossing Documentary Of All Time

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

Insiders say film could get nominated in documentary category at next year’s Oscars.
By Gil Kaufman

The kid is hot. First, Justin Bieber became the first person since, well, himself to land two albums in the top five on the Billboard 200, and now his 3-D movie, “Never Say Never,” has vaulted into the #3 position on the list of top-grossing documentaries of all time.

According to Box Office Mojo, “Never” has grossed $64,162,036 to date, putting it on track to possibly overtake the #2 doc of all time, “March of the Penguins,” which grossed more than $77 million. It’s unlikely to knock off the top documentary of all time, Michael Moore’s 2004 flick “Fahrenheit 9/11,” which rolled up $119 million, but with the “Never” director’s cut re-release last weekend (which brought in another $9 million), Bieber is positioned to conquer yet another medium.

In his run to the top, Bieber has leaped over such lauded and popular docs as “Super Size Me,” Madonna’s “Truth or Dare,” Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine,” former Vice President Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” and the nature flick “Earth.” It also took the crown for the biggest opening weekend of any documentary, with a $29.5 million first weekend, squeezing past the $23 million open of “Fahrenheit.”

Hollywood may end up catching Bieber Fever as well, with The Hollywood Reporter asking in a recent article whether “Never” could land the 17-year-old phenom a spot at the Oscars next year. A source told the trade magazine that “Never” had serious buzz at some post-Oscar parties thanks to its healthy grosses, which have impressed some Academy members.

“You’d be surprised at the caliber of people who came up to Justin at the Vanity Fair party at the Sunset Tower, most of whom had seen the movie and loved it,” said an unnamed insider. “There was even talk of putting it up for an Oscar next year in the documentary category. People appreciate that it’s not just a kids’ movie.” The article mentioned that Bieber was one of the brightest stars at the Fair party, chatting up Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger and working the room like a pro.

Lil’ Kim Says She Was ‘Greeted With Open Arms’ In Prison

When Lil’ Kim spent almost a year in a federal prison, she managed to create some fond memories behind bars. During MTV’s “RapFix Live,” the Brooklyn rapper detailed some of her experiences while serving time for a perjury conviction.

“When I first got to prison, I slept so good for the first three weeks,” Kim told MTV News. “I was working that whole two months before, nonstop, trying to finish an album, doing promo, doing the TV show [BET's 'Lil' Kim: Countdown to Lockdown'], doing shows, doing all types of things. So I never slept, never [rested] at all for two months straight. … When I got there, I kind of just collapsed.”

Kim said there were a few haters inside, but there was plenty more love for her than anything else.

“I was greeted with open arms by a lot of wonderful, wonderful girls at FDC Philadelphia,” Kim said. “I met a lot of good people in there who are still my friends to this day.”

The only time the rapper felt especially homesick was during Thanksgiving. She also mentioned receiving support from a number of well-known celebrities while she was away, including Oprah Winfrey.

“She sent me three of her favorite books and said, ‘Read these for inspiration and motivation,’ ” Kim remembered, though she couldn’t recall the titles. “She wrote me a letter in each book and just was like, ‘Kim, you have so much potential. You’re a very bright young girl.’ She had so much really good things to say.”

Kim put pen to paper in response to Winfrey but did not mail her letter after realizing that correspondence she was sending to fellow celebrities was being stolen. “I still have it to this day,” Kim said of the letter she wrote Winfrey, adding, “If I ever meet her, I would give it to her still.”

What do you think of Lil’ Kim’s positive attitude about her time in prison? Let us know in the comments.

Beyonce, Leonardo DiCaprio Lead Flurry Of Movie Remakes

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

Russell Brand, Willow Smith, Jonah Hill are just a few stars looking to revamp film and TV classics like ‘Arthur’, ‘Annie’ and ’21 Jump Street.’
By Terri Schwartz

What do Willow Smith and Beyoncé have in common with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and Kenny Wormald? They’re all starring (or in talks to star) in the latest round of remakes of beloved films and TV shows coming down the pike.

On Thursday, news broke that Beyoncé would be starring in a Clint Eastwood-directed remake of the 1976 Barbra Streisand classic “A Star Is Born” (which was a remake of a 1954 movie that remade a 1937 film). In the meantime, Will Smith is reportedly petitioning Sony to remake “Annie” (the 1982 movie and 1977 musical) starring his 10-year-old daughter, Willow, best known for whipping her hair.

In October it was announced that Leonardo DiCaprio and best bud Tobey Maguire would be starring in Baz Luhrmann’s 3-D retelling of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel “The Great Gatsby,” with Carey Mulligan joining as Daisy Buchanan.

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have been working on bringing the ’80s Johnny Depp-starring television series “21 Jump Street” to the big screen since 2008, and they might even get Depp to cameo in it in time for the film’s March 16, 2012, release date.

And let’s not forget the long hunt for a Ren McCormack (the character Kevin Bacon made famous in 1984), after Zac Efron and Chace Crawford dropped out of the planned “Footloose” remake that finally landed dancer Kenny Wormald the role of his life.

Then there’s “Arthur,” the Russell Brand-starring remake of the 1981 screwball comedy about a happily drunk millionaire who risks everything for love. The film has tapped everyone from Helen Mirren to Greta Gerwig and Nick Nolte.

Two recently announced remakes are “Lethal Weapon” and “The Wizard of Oz,” which are still in early development and without stars attached. Warner Bros. announced their plans to reboot the Mel Gibson-starring franchise on Thursday and tapped writer Will Beall to pen the script with completely new characters. And director Robert Zemeckis announced back in November that he planned on remaking the 1939 Technicolor classic using the script from the original film, with Warner Bros. hoping Robert Downey Jr. will play Oz.

Just this past year, films from “Clash of the Titans” to “The Karate Kid” to “A Nightmare on Elm Street” were remade for the big screen and were well-received by audiences. “Alice in Wonderland” and “Clash of the Titans” went on to become two of the top 10 highest-grossing films of 2010, while “Piranha 3D” and “The A-Team” also went on to strong successes, proving that there definitely is a market for these kinds of remakes.

Usher Is “Superdad”

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

Usher has fans around the world, but none bigger – or more important – than his sons Usher V, 3, and Naviyd, 2. Even when he’s away on tour, the ‘OMG’ hit-maker says he always checks in with his kids at the end of the day.

“My kids see me as a superhero, I’m like superdad to my kids,” Usher shares. “If I’m not with them every day we still see each other, we pray before dinner and we talk before bedtime.”

While its visuals were no doubt memorable for fans of the “Born This Way” video, Lady Gaga’s funky fashions have also caught the eye of fashionistas everywhere. The video’s creative director, Laurieann Gibson, credits Gaga’s stylist, Nicola Formichetti, for embracing eye-catching couture for the Nick Knight-directed clip.

“When we found Nicola Formichetti — we found him when we were doing Much Music — before that we were just basically hustling and she was making a lot of the costumes, and we were grinding and America Apparel was our best friend,” Gibson recalled. “And then we found Nicola and he just got it. So when we’re on set, the Haus is such a collaboration, and Nicola is inspired and loves the passion of the dance. He is fashion, and him and Gaga together are magic. To see them push and pull, it’s just a real process. It’s like the Factory. It’s very Warhol how we operate.”

Formichetti blogged about the video’s expansive fashion credits. In the opening sequence of the video, the star wears a head accessory by Alexis Bittar, a diamond neckpiece by Erickson Beamon with earrings by Pamela Love, and a stained-glass dress by Petra Storrs. Gaga also wears finger rings by Erickson Beamon and the technical chiffon was designed by Thierry Mugler.

During the birthing scene, co-star Raquel Zimmermann wears a bodysuit by Atsuko Kudo and a neckpiece by the Baroness. Gaga wears shoes by Natacha Marro. In the following scene, Zimmerman wears boots by Kobi Levi. And for Gaga’s floating head scene, she wears Kudo and Levi, as well.

During the evil-Gaga gun scene, the singer dons knife shoes by Mugler, a dress by Sorcha O’ Raghallaigh and gloves by Portolano.

When the song finally kicks in, Gaga wears skimpy lingerie that includes a bra by OMD, underwear by NYC Sex Trash by Stephanie Paterek, gloves by LaCrasia and customized half-sole shoes by Capezio. She completes the look with a special “BTW” jacket by TomTom.

For the “Born This Way” skeleton scene, both she and her skeleton lover, Rico, wear tuxedos by Mugler. For the orgy, the slime is courtesy of Bart Hess. For her Michael Jackson impression in the alley, Gaga wears a shirt and pants by Haus of Gaga, shoes by Natacha Marro, a Billykirk belt and LaCrasia gloves. As the video closes out, the unicorn horn is courtesy of Jennifer Behr.

Beyonce To Star In Clint Eastwood’s ‘A Star Is Born’ Remake

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Movie will be directed and produced by the Oscar winner.

Beyoncé Knowles is headed back to the big screen and into the familiar territory of playing an aspiring singer-turned-superstar. According to Deadline, Knowles will star in a remake of “A Star Is Born,” to be directed and produced by Oscar winner Clint Eastwood for Warner Bros.

The remake will be the fourth telling of the “A Star Is Born” tale, the most memorable in recent years being the 1976 version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson as star-crossed lovers of sorts. It is also worth mentioning that the producers of that film, Billy Gerber and Jon Peters, are also attached to this new project. It is said to be a full-on musical with production set to begin sometime in the fall.

Naturally, the plot details are under wraps, but the original story revolves around an aspiring singer who meets and falls in love with a troubled, failing former star who helps get the young ingénue her big break in the business.

No announcements have been made with regard to the male lead, but the report mentioned that major names like Will Smith, Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Hamm have been floated around.

It’s definitely an interesting step for Knowles but not necessarily a surprise, given the fact that the majority of her film roles have been as singers (“Cadillac Records,” “Dreamgirls,” “The Fighting Temptations”). While many thought “Dreamgirls” would bring awards recognition for Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson’s supporting role ended up garnering the most attention. With Oscar fave Eastwood at the helm of this new project, Knowles could be in line for some hardware yet.

Justin Bieber Lands Two Albums In Billboard Top Five

Friday, March 4th, 2011

The feat marks the first time this accomplishment has been achieved since last year, when Bieber also had two albums in the top five.
By Gil Kaufman

Justin Bieber has become such a musical sales force that now the only competition left is, well, Justin Bieber. After landing the #1 album last week with his Never Say Never – The Remixes, Bieber had to settle for #2 this week to make room for Adele’s 21. But the rush of attention on the now-17-year-old pop star thanks to his big-screen debut in “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” helped propel his nearly year-old My World 2.0 back into the top five at #5, a feat that Billboard Associate Director of Charts Keith Caulfield said was a “very big deal.”

In fact, Bieber is the first artist to have two albums in the top five at the same time since he achieved the same feat nearly a year ago. The last time it happened was in March of 2010 when 2.0 debuted at #1 while the singer’s debut, My World, was at #5. Caulfield said that before that, it hadn’t happened since October 2004 when rapper Nelly’s simultaneous album release of Sweat and Suit both crashed the top five at #1 and #2.

If you go back to the last artist to do it without releasing two new albums at the same time, you have to look to May 2003, when 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ was at #5 and his The New Breed CD/DVD debuted at #2.

“Any way you look at it, it’s unusual,” said Caulfield, noting that even with all their success on the charts lately, not even Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift have notched that achievement. “It helps that you have four Bieber albums to choose from on the charts right now.”

Lil Wayne sure is proud of protégés Drake and Nicki Minaj. The Cash Money Records superstar is set to venture out on his I Am Music II Tour, bringing Minaj and Travis Barker along, but despite him being the top bill, Weezy is in awe of the Pink Friday star joining him and Drizzy stopping by for a few dates.

“Nicki and Wayne? Given who she is now,” Wayne proudly told MTV News, “and Drake might catch a few shows, but you know, he got his overseas thing popping right now. I told him to take advantage of that, because we all want to come over there someday and be bigger than we are here.”

Wayne’s tour kicks off later this month on March 18 in Buffalo, New York. The approximately one-month trek will find the rapper travelling to Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Houston and Oakland, California, among other locations, including Vancouver British Columbia.

It’s Wayne’s first tour since his release from prison late last year.

Previously, Wayne spoke about Drake and how the Thank Me Later star became the centerpiece of his Young Money empire.

“I knew he was something bigger than something I had envisioned for my company when I ran into this kid,” Wayne explained. “I was thinking I’m going to put my people on and we’re going to be all right, but then when I ran into this kid, I was like, this a superstar, he’s got a chance to make my company something for real, something to be thought of, to be remembered.”

Jennifer Lopez’s ‘On The Floor’ Video Bows On ‘American Idol’

The ‘Idol’ judge’s sultry dance clip premiered during Thursday’s first results show.

With just about 10 minutes left on “American Idol” Thursday (March 3), Jennifer Lopez debuted her new music video, “On the Floor.” The clip was cued up right as suspense built up over who the judges would grant second-chance passes.

The single marks the first time Lopez has hit the Billboard top 10 since her 2003 #1 track “All I Have.” The new song, featuring Pitbull, debuted at #9 on Billboard Hot 100.

Dressed in a glittery, gold outfit, Lopez is seen in several long shots, dangling lazily on a couch. Between shots of the Miami rapper, the video returns to scenes of Lopez dressed in a sexy, skintight catsuit dancing in front of a gold cardio barre.

“If you’re an animal, tear up the floor,” she sings, giving the camera her fiercest gaze and moving her shoulders aggressively. “Don’t stop, keep it moving/ Put your drinks up.” The video set looks like the kind of lounge-y nightclub that you’d find in one of the exotic locations that she shouts out in the song, one that only caters to a VIP clientele.

In another scene, Lopez is wearing a bikini top when she makes her way to the center of a stage and breaks it down “fly-girl” style. In still another shot, the star’s mane is piled on top of her head, very elegantly as she sexily implores everyone to dance the night away and spend it on the floor.

‘Sherlock Holmes’ Sequel Shows Off Downey And Law’s ‘Brotherhood’

MTV News visited the ‘Game of Shadows’ set on its final day of production.

MTV News’ arrival on the U.K. set of “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” marked a melancholy occasion. Not because things weren’t going well on the sequel to 2009′s $520 million-grossing hit, or because stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law weren’t happy to see us.

But our January visit coincided with Law’s final day in production, and he and Downey felt like they were just getting warmed up.

“We were talking so much about the possibilities of more, and loads of ideas and situations, on the first one,” said Law, who returns to the fold as sidekick Watson to Downey’s ass-kicking Holmes. “We’ve got even more ideas now, and I hope we’re going to be allowed to do another one again.”

“We’re clinging on to this thing,” Downey laughed. “It’s going to have claw marks in it when we let go.”

Warner Bros. hardly wants the duo to relinquish the new franchise anytime soon. While the characters are based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic 19th-century literary creations — ones that hardly had the contemporary appeal of a caped superhero — the success of the ’09 flick was anything but assured. Yet under the steady guidance of director Guy Ritchie and keying off the bromantic chemistry of its two male leads, “Sherlock Holmes” grossed $62 million over its opening weekend — even as it went head-to-head with “Avatar.”

Now they’re back, and they’ve asked Noomi Rapace, the star of the Swedish-language “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” trilogy, to join up as a gypsy. Or as Ritchie put it to us, “A gypsy princess with balls — that’s what Noomi brings to the table.”

The sequel focuses on a web of conspiracies overseen by nefarious Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris). After Rapace’s gypsy meets up with Holmes and Watson in London, the story pushes out of the city and takes on a far greater scope than the first one. But ultimately, like that ’09 film, whether or not the sequel works will rest greatly on the sizzling back-and-forth between Downey and Law. From what we saw on the U.K. set, no one should be worried.

“It feels a bit like a relay team,” Law said their dynamic. “He leads, then he hands the baton off to me, but it’s done subconsciously.”

“I also think there are two kinds of performers,” added Downey. “I’ve heard of, and I guess I’ve experienced the kind that are like, ‘You want to play ping-pong? Because I’ll kick your ass!’ Everything is about, ‘I’ll do it better than you.’ Whereas, we become this third thing, this brotherhood.”

Check out everything we’ve got on “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.”

Britney Spears’ new single, “Till the World Ends” is dance-floor ready — just ask Ke$ha. The pop star in her own right wrote the just-released track, which was produced by Dr. Luke and Max Martin.

“I consider myself a songwriter before and above everything else, so it’s an honor to write for one of pop music’s biggest icons. And I hope it gets everyone’s ass on the dance floor cuz y’all know that’s what K-Monay does best!” the singer said in an exclusive statement to MTV News.

The single was posted by Perez Hilton on Thursday afternoon (March 3), after speculation earlier in the day that it would hit radio next week.

“Till the World Ends” is a swirling, “beat the beat” track, ready for late nights spent “dancing till the world ends” as she sings on the fast-paced party jam. “This kitten got your tongue tied in knots I see/ Spit it out ’cause I’m dying for company,” a confident Spears purrs.

Later in the song, she sings: “See the sunlight/ We ain’t stopping/ Keep on dancing till the world ends/ If you feel it/ Let it happen/ Keep on dancing till the world ends.”

Last month, Ke$ha talked with Spin.com about the song, saying it’s about the power of an artist performing a great gig. “That song is me imagining her and any female musician touring the world,” she said. “You know, when you go out, and you’re having an amazing, magical night and you don’t want to go to sleep and you want it to last until the world ends.”

This new track is the latest single from Spears’ forthcoming Femme Fatale, which drops March 29.

What do you think about the latest Britney song? Let us know in the comments!

Justin Bieber’s Grammy Performance Will Be ‘A Crossover,’ Usher Says

Friday, March 4th, 2011

The ‘O.M.G.’ singer looks forward to sharing the stage with his protégé on Sunday night.
By James Montgomery

HOLLYWOOD — At Sunday’s 53rd Grammy Awards, Usher will be pulling double duty as both a nominee and a performer. Of course, given the massive year he just completed — with the success of his smash single “O.M.G.” and as a mentor to rising phenom Justin Bieber — Ush’s Grammy plans seem rather fitting.

Especially since he’ll be performing with Bieber (and Bieber’s pal Jaden Smith), a move that’s just as much about celebrating Usher’s successes as it is the successes of his young protégé.

“Having been through [the Grammys] so many times, you couldn’t want for anything more than for your young protégé to have the opportunity to have one, so, in support of him having his moment, I wanted to be here,” Usher told MTV News on Thursday, hours before his performance at the (Belvedere) RED launch party in Hollywood. “And also to be there to perform, to kind of tell the story of how we came together. This music business has definitely been good to both of us, and this year we have a lot to be happy for.”

And just how will the dynamic duo tell that story? Well, Usher wasn’t about to reveal all the details, but he did say that he’s hoping their performance will show another side of Bieber … a side most tend to overlook.

“The performance will be fun,” Usher explained. “We want to get up there and just do what we do. Be comfortable, and have a great time. … This is kind of a crossover for Justin. Having performed on so many different stages, this is the way that I wanted him to be seen and an opportunity to show the industry — a lot of the industry, that didn’t believe [in him] — some of his other talents. He’s going to play acoustically, and also, we’ll get down a little bit.”

And though Ush is up for a pair of Grammy awards on Sunday — Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best Contemporary R&B Album for Raymond v. Raymond — he’s most looking forward to sharing the stage with Bieber and giving fans a look at where the young artist will be heading next.

“I’m very proud, man. I definitely saw it from the beginning, but thanks to the team that we have around us, it was made to happen. And that story has only just begun,” Usher said. “The story of Justin Bieber doesn’t stop with screaming girls; we need screaming fans all around the world … a cultural experience that’s much more than just fanfare. And that’s what this is. That’s what the Grammys will be; that’s what my next phase for Justin is. This is the way I found him: I found him with a guitar in his hand, so I want him to be seen that way.”

Don’t miss “Snooki & Sway: Live From the Grammys,” a red-carpet live stream kicking off Sunday at 6 p.m. ET on MTV.com. And stick with us all Grammy night for coverage of the red carpet, the show, the afterparties and beyond!

Grammy 2011 Snubs Include Adam Lambert, Ke$ha, Big Boi, Rihanna

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Justin Bieber’s Haircut Has ‘Been In The Works,’ Stylist Says

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Bieber worked closely with hairstylist Vanessa Price on his new ‘do, which complements his ‘very soft hair.’
By James Montgomery

It is, unquestionably, one of the most important stories of our time: Justin Bieber’s decision to cut his gloriously swooping hairstyle into a close-cropped new ‘do, and the social ramifications thereof.

And while Bieber himself has declared that he “doesn’t really care” what folks think of his new look, that hasn’t stopped the media from digging deep, covering all the angles in an attempt to ascertain just why JB decided to deny us all the pleasure of gazing upon his famous locks.

The latest example of this comes from People magazine, which interviewed Bieber’s “longtime hairstylist” Vanessa Price and dared to ask her the toughest question of all: Why now?

“He was ready,” Price said. “Cutting your hair is just part of the evolution and growing process for anyone, and I think he was just ready.”

But perhaps grieving Bieber fans can take solace in the fact that this decision wasn’t made on the spot. Rather, JB had been considering the change for a while. It was, after all, a pretty big deal.

“We’ve been talking about it over the last six months or so, more or less,” Price said. “It’s definitely been in the works for a while.”

And once the decision to cut his hair was made, Price said that Bieber maintained a steely focus about just how he wanted his new ‘do to look. He worked closely with Price on the cut — his hair has always been a bit of a collaborative effort — and the end result is a haircut for the ages.

“Justin has always been clear about what he wants done. That said, he trusts me to make the right judgment with it, we really orchestrate his hairstyle together,” Price said. “He knows what he wants and I know what will work best with his features and hair type … it’s like silk. He has very soft hair [and] I hope it stays that way forever.”

Lil Wayne Producer Bangladesh Plans Future Collaborations With Ke$ha

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

‘It gives her a whole new look and it shows how creative I am,’ Grammy-nominated producer says of Cannibal singer.
By Jayson Rodriguez

Producer Bangladesh‘s biggest break came when he powered Lil Wayne‘s “A Milli.” Then he upped the ante on Weezy’s recent release “6 Foot 7 Foot.” So, what does the Grammy-nominated beatsmith have in store for the new year? More of the same, actually.

Bangladesh hopes to continue his genre-bending ways, whether it’s lending rock-leaning sensibilities to Lil Wayne or injecting a pop star’s work with edgy hip-hop drums. He and Dr. Luke (Britney Spears, Pink, Katy Perry) recently worked together on Ke$ha’s “Sleazy,” from her Cannibal LP.

“I met Luke through a mutual friend, so it was like me walking into a stranger’s house,” Bangladesh told MTV News. “I really didn’t know what to expect. But it was all love. It was kind of like the roles were reversed, like I was the biggest producer and he just had a couple of hits. Once I saw how he felt about me, I was like man, I might be the truth. [He laughs.]”

After hitting it off, they joined forces for “Sleazy,” the first of many collaborations Bangladesh is shooting for with the “Tik Tok” star.

“That’s a good look, because it gives her a whole new look and it shows how creative I am,” he explained. “It shows how music is changing. And it shows that I’m kind of the changer behind it. The leader. I’m trying to mix the different genres where it’s still convincing, like, I believe them doing this.”

Charlie Sheen’s Recent Director Hopes Star ‘Gets The Help He Needs’

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

Rob Margolies worked with embattled actor on indie comedy ‘She Wants Me,’ in which Sheen plays an outsize version of himself.

Last October, after being handed the script for “She Wants Me” by a friend and producer on the indie comedy, Charlie Sheen signed on to play a small role — an outsize version of himself also named Charlie Sheen. He shot his scenes over the course of a few days, and according to writer/director Rob Margolies, was “on time every day and really reliable and always in a good mood.”

But speaking to MTV News on Wednesday from Los Angeles, where he’s in post-production on the movie, the filmmaker said that the Sheen he’s seen in countless recent TV interviews — talking about melting faces and armless children on “Good Morning America,” for example — bears little resemblance to the man who was nothing but professional on set.

“Charlie wasn’t like that at all,” Margolies said. “He was completely in control and not on the defensive. No one ever felt uncomfortable. My personal opinion of him has not changed. I hope he gets the help he needs. I believe in him and wish him the best.”

Back in the fall — shortly before Sheen’s life took a turn for the worse following a drug-and-porn-star-filled incident at the Plaza Hotel in New York — the actor was having so much fun on the set of “She Wants Me” that he asked Margolies to write another scene in which he could appear. But Margolies declined, telling MTV News additional screen time would have felt artificial and detracted from the original appearance.

The film focuses on a couple — he an aspiring filmmaker, she a struggling actress — who move to Los Angeles. A friend of theirs, also an actress trying to make it big, lands a starring role in a Charlie Sheen film and claims she’s even dating him. The couple thinks she’s nuts, until the “Two and a Half Men” star actually shows up one day. His three scenes last about five minutes, according to Margolies.

Though the extra scene Sheen requested never came to pass, the actor nonetheless agreed to help finance the production and was rewarded with an executive-producer credit. “He came onboard and gave us a last-minute sum of money to finish the movie in post,” said Margolies, adding that the overall budget was “well under half a million dollars.”

They wrapped principal photography last year, shot some pickups in January and hope to put the finishing touches on the film by May with an eye toward selling the flick to a studio.

Margolies himself hasn’t been in touch with Sheen in recent weeks, but one of his producing partners has reached out to the embattled star. “They’re close friends, and he’s concerned for him,” he said.

While Margolies didn’t offer a hypothesis for what might be ailing Sheen at the moment, he did say he understands why he appears to be so erratic in recent interviews.

“He seemed like he was on the defensive in the interviews,” the filmmaker said. “I think he’s just caught off-guard and scared. It’s a result of him feeling like he’s being judged. Most people who are being judged act up. It’s a defense mechanism. I don’t think that’s in direct relation to who he is at all.”

Lil Wayne Producer Bangladesh Plans Future Collaborations With Ke$ha

‘It gives her a whole new look and it shows how creative I am,’ Grammy-nominated producer says of Cannibal singer.

Usher’s ‘OMG’ ‘ ‘Kills It Every Night,’ Says Tourmate Miguel

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

‘There’s so much anticipation for this song when he comes out,’ Miguel says of MTV News’ Song of the Year.

MTV News just named Usher’s “OMG” the #1 song of 2010, and clearly we’re not alone in our admiration. But what is it like to watch it performed night after night? Miguel, who is currently opening for Usher’s OMG Tour gave us a little insight.

“There’s so much anticipation for this song when he comes out, and he really gives the fans what they want,” Miguel laughs. “He kills it every night.”

Before his latest string of hits, Usher was out of the spotlight for a period of time in 2009, when he was dealing with personal issues including a divorce. Miguel finds his 2010 comeback inspiring.

“There was a period of time, when a lot of people didn’t believe in Usher and thought he was finished … just kind of going to ride off into the sunset and disappear,” the up-and-coming singer noted.

With the release of Raymond vs. Raymond and its extended, companion EP, Versus, in 2010, Usher proved the skeptics wrong with chart-toppers including “OMG” and “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love.”

“He’s such a tremendous example of perseverance and determination,” Miguel beamed. “I was there throughout this album, so I’ve seen the adversity that he’s had to overcome perception-wise.”

MTV News’ Top 25 Songs of 2010 have all been counted down. But the fun isn’t over yet: We still want to see your picks in the comments below!

Lil Wayne Responds To Alleged Jay-Z ‘H.A.M.’ Dis

Weezy’s ’6 Foot 7 Foot’ video premieres Thursday at 7:54 p.m. ET on MTV.

Five years ago, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne were trading lyrical jabs like Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj do these days. Their war of words, however, seemed to subside when the iconic Brooklyn rapper invited the Cash Money superstar to join him on “Hello Brooklyn 2.0,” from 2007′s American Gangster.

But things seemed to become chilly again when Birdman compared Hov and Weezy, saying his artist is a better rapper and has more money.

In January, Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “H.A.M.” arrived via Facebook, and fans wondered whether Jay was taking shots at Wayne on the track.

“N—as fantasize about the sh– that I do daily/ Like these rappers rap about all the sh– that I do daily,” Jay spits on the number. “I’m like really, half a billi, n—a, really you got Baby money/ Keep it real with n—as, n—as ain’t got my lady money.”

According to Weezy, who heard the track personally through West, he isn’t looking to start another competition with Jay. Wayne told MTV News that he didn’t ask ‘Ye about the alleged dig: “I wouldn’t ask him about a Jay-Z line because he’s not Jay-Z.”

That doesn’t mean Wayne wouldn’t respond to the line, even if he hasn’t returned fire just yet.

“Me and my wit, given my wit, I would probably play off of it,” Wayne explained. “But I wouldn’t make it a competition, because actually, the subject that he’s talking about in that line, I can’t box with the card. I’d be the first one to tell you that, given my wit, and the type of person that I am, I’d capitalize and I’d play off of it. Yeah, I definitely would.”

The New Orleans rapper is putting the final touches on his next studio album — and his first project since his release from prison — Tha Carter IV. But first, Wayne is set to premiere his video for “6 Foot 7 Foot” on MTV this Thursday at 7:54 p.m.

Justin Bieber Reveals Birthday Plans, Talks Haircut

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

‘I’m just going to relax,’ singer says of his plans.
By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber turns 17 on March 1, and he’s revealing what his plans are for the big day.

“I only have, like, four days, so I’m just going to relax, because I start my world tour starting on [March 4] — so just going to mentally prepare and just relax,” Justin told “Entertainment Tonight.” “No birthday bash. … Hopefully my grandparents will be out here and I’ll be able to spend time, a little bit, with them. My grandma makes the best cheesecake — cherry cheesecake. She made that for my 13th birthday.”

Of course, Bieber’s birthday isn’t the only thing making headlines these days. His new haircut has also been causing quite the hoopla, but Bieber seems to be brushing it off. “I just wanted to [cut my hair], that’s all. Not really a big reason; I just woke up and said, ‘I don’t want this anymore,’ so I just cut it,” he said. “It’s not really about that. You know, the fans really liked it, but they’ll like me no matter what, because I think it’s about the music. I’m really excited to see what the fans overseas think and take it day by day.”

Bieber will re-release his 3-D flick “Never Say Never” this weekend. “It’s 40 minutes of extra footage, so it’s basically like a new movie,” he says. “It’s real exciting, because it shows me and my friends more and it shows a different part of the concert, so it’s going to be great. Hopefully all the fans will go back and watch it.”

Next week, in addition to his birthday, Bieber will also kick off his European tour. “I’m excited to see what [Willow Smith] brings to the table,” he said. “We start on March 4, so she’s really excited, and she told me that she can’t wait — and she’s adorable — so I can’t wait.

“I have such great people around me and such good family,” he added. “I just want to be a good role model to people, and to be able to just make good music. … I’m going to make mistakes, but it’s about learning from them and becoming better. … My movie shows that anything is possible and dreams do come true. … Remember to always stay humble and always be gracious and anything can happen.”

What do you think about Bieber’s new ‘do? Let us know in the comments!

Lady Gaga ‘Born This Way’ Producer ‘Blown Away’ By Video

Fernando Garibay marvels to MTV News at how Gaga has combined ‘the imagery, the dance’ and the song’s message.
By Jocelyn Vena

On Monday (February 28), Lady Gaga released the video for “Born This Way.” In the Nick Knight-directed clip, she explores a new life form that doesn’t judge and certainly doesn’t hate. Full of trippy alien-birth scenes, many costume changes and even an appearance by a unicorn, the video is Gaga’s “manifesto” on embracing people of all types.

The video — styled by Nicola Formichetti and choreographed by Laurieann Gibson — is essentially a visual representation of Gaga’s dance anthem about celebrating our differences. The song was co-produced by Gaga, White Shadow and Fernando Garibay, and Garibay stopped by the MTV News offices on Monday afternoon to talk about the new clip.

“Well, I’ve seen pieces. We were privy to watching her make the video and stuff, and as we were watching her do the choreography and everything, we were just blown away, of course,” he said. “It’s amazing. Her talent, I mean, she’s so talented, but in combining the imagery, the dance and how it’s expressed with the song is truly amazing.”

Garibay was so “blown away” he reiterated that he was still processing the dark, rainbow-colored clip. “I’m still blown away by it. I saw it this morning and I was like, ‘Wow.’ ”

Gaga seems to push the boundaries with each video, redefining what it means to be a pop star. And according to Garibay, that’s just Gaga.

“I can’t really speak for her but what I’ve noticed is, yeah, she’s extremely conscious of these things,” he explained. “You have to be for that … level of artistic expression; you really have to know yourself and be confident of the message you’re going to portray, and it’s very genuine to her.”

What did you think of the “Born This Way” video? We want to hear from you in the comments section!

Lil’ Kim Video Calls Nicki Minaj A ‘Carbon Copy’

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Catch Lil’ Kim on ‘RapFix Live’ Thursday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com.
By D.L. Chandler

The battle of the Barbies continues: Lil’ Kim and her open war on reigning queen of hip-hop Nicki Minaj has not lost a bit of steam after last week’s release of a video in which the former Junior M.A.F.I.A. vet continues to discredit the Young Money starlet.

Before she graces the MTV studios Thursday for “RapFix Live,” the Brooklyn rap diva isn’t slowing down her relentless attacks on Nicki. The 15-minute “Carbon Copy,” called “a documentary exposé about crazed fans with record deals,” shows some of the many incarnations of Kim’s image over the course of her 17-year career and how Minaj seemingly borrowed some of the looks as her own.

The 35-year-old Kim claims Minaj has been disrespectful after hearing her say during a radio interview that veteran female rappers need to move aside. Using those comments as inspiration, the rapper born Kimberly Jones has taken up a crusade that has morphed into an entire mixtape project devoted to dismantling the Nicki Minaj machine. Kim reported that her Black Friday sold 113,000 copies in 28 hours after she released it February 14, but because she sold it herself using PayPal, there is no way to confirm that number.

The cover of Black Friday shows Kim, bloody sword in hand, next to a pink-haired severed head and a dismembered body wearing the same outfit as Nicki on her Pink Friday cover. Before the mixtape’s release, Kim leaked “Pissin’ On Em” (to the tune of Nicki’s “Did It On Em”), which accuses Minaj of being a “Lil’ Kim clone.”

And the war of words hasn’t been confined to studio recordings: Kim also took to airing her grievances in print via a recent interview with Rap-Up. “People gotta know that I’m not stupid, but I’m having fun. I’m protecting my brand and my empire at this moment,” she said. She added, “If this situation is deeper than what everybody would like to think it is, then it will all come to light. I’m a strong believer in how I conducted my strategy with this whole situation.”

This isn’t Kim’s first foray into the circus of hip-hop beefs. The “Get Money” MC is still in somewhat of a feud with fellow Brooklyn artist Foxy Brown, who has been largely inactive aside from a track aimed at Kim released earlier this year. While she hasn’t injected herself into the squabble between Kim and Nicki, Foxy has openly sided with her Trinidadian peer Minaj.

Catch Lil’ Kim on “RapFix Live” this Thursday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com.

Justin Bieber Vintage Video: His First Meeting With Usher

Justin Timberlake also wanted to sign Bieber, ‘Never Say Never’ star said in 2009.
By Jocelyn Vena

Photo: Brian Phares/MTV News

Just as the world was learning who Justin Bieber was, MTV News caught up with the shaggy-haired singer in September 2009. He was gearing up to release his debut album, My World, and plotting his pop-world domination. In the year and a half since that interview, Bieber has done the nearly impossible, launching himself into the pop mega-sphere.

In the chat, Bieber recalled how he and his manager, Scooter Braun, met and eventually got big names interested in signing the teen.

“My manager found me on YouTube. He flew me out to Atlanta for the first time — I’d never actually been on a plane before. He flew me to Atlanta where i was going to the studio to meet some people,” he recalled.

“And Usher happened to roll up in his Range Rover. I ran up to him, and I was like, ‘Usher, I love your songs. Want me to sing you one?’ The politest possible way he could say no, he did. … I took the hint. I didn’t get to sing for him: He had to run into a studio session.”

But later, Usher was beckoning the teen back to the ATL. “He actually watched my videos — after my manager got to talking to him — and was like, ‘I should have let this kid sing,’ and flew me back to Atlanta where I got to sing for him in a proper setting. A week later, I had a meeting with Justin Timberlake, who also wanted to sign me, so they both kind of wanted me.”

As the story goes, Bieber went with Usher, and the two never looked back.

“As far as Usher being my mentor, he’s definitely given me words of wisdom. I hear it from everybody, but definitely to hear it from Usher is great, just to stay humble and grounded is very important,” he explained.

“There’s a lot of people, especially young stars, that have gone down the wrong path, and I definitely plan to stay humble and stay grounded and keep my family first, because that stuff really is important in life.”

On Friday, Justin Bieber’s 3-D documentary, “Never Say Never,” opens. The film takes a look at how the teen star worked to hit it big. MTV News has been chatting with him along the way, from the time he first burst on the scene in 2009 until now, as he embarks on a huge 2011 that will include a tour and more new music.

Lady Gaga ‘Loves’ ‘Born This Way’ Video, Laurieann Gibson Says

‘She’s very proud of it,’ Gaga’s creative director reveals to MTV News.
By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber’s Haircut Has ‘Been In The Works,’ Stylist Says

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Justin Bieber’s Grammy Performance Will Be ‘A Crossover,’ Usher Says

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

The ‘O.M.G.’ singer looks forward to sharing the stage with his protégé on Sunday night.
By James Montgomery

Photo: Amanda Edwards/ Getty Images

Rihanna, Ciara Fight And Make Up On Twitter

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Ciara’s mention of Rihanna on E! sparks online battle between the two singers.
By James Montgomery

Rihanna
Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ WireImage

Note to any aspiring haters out there: Rihanna is not one to be trifled with.

First, she flogged members of the media in her video for her current single “S&M,” then she went all scorched-earth on censors in the U.K., who changed the title of that song to “Come On” without her knowledge and earned a fierce rebuke for their efforts. (Rihanna personally vowed to have the title changed back … and, less than a week later, it was.)

And on Friday, she turned her wrath upon Ciara, after the singer dared dis RiRi during an appearance on E!’s “Fashion Police” with Joan Rivers.

“I ran into [Rihanna] recently at a party. She wasn’t the nicest,” Ciara told Rivers. “It’s crazy, because I’ve always loved and respected what she’s done in fashion. It wasn’t the most pleasant run-in.”

Of course, things were about to get a lot less pleasant. Soon after Ciara dared speak her name, Rihanna took to her Twitter account to strike back brand-new rival … in less than 140 characters.

“My bad, Ci, did I forget to tip you,” Rihanna wrote, including the hashtag #howrudeofme for extra spite.

Of course, that earned a response from Ciara, who wrote, “Trust me, Rihanna, you don’t want to see me on or off the stage.”

Rihanna replied first with a taunt (“U gangsta huh? Haaa” (link and then, after thinking about it for a minute, went for the jugular, making fun of Ciara’s recent sales woes by writing, “Good luck with booking that stage you speak of.”

Ciara tried to laugh off the slight, while Rihanna, perhaps feeling a twinge of remorse after vivisecting her latest foe, posted an apology: “Ciara baby, I love you girl! You hurt my feelings real bad on TV! I’m heartbroken! That’s why I retaliated this way! So sorry!”

Ciara accepted RiRi’s apology and suggested the two work out their problems “in person.” Rihanna has yet to respond.
